Walleye News and Notes

Road victory propels Fish to three win weekend: Toledo entered play Friday looking to snap a three-game losing streak and they did so in fine fashion besting Brampton 5-2 in Canada on the strength of three assists from defenseman Simon Denis. The Walleye returned home for a three power play goal night in a 5-1 victory over Atlanta Saturday and bested the Kalamazoo Wings 5-4 Sunday when Kevin Tansey scored late in the third for the win.

Offense explodes: Coming into the weekend Toledo had scored a total of 11 goals over the previous five games but unloaded this weekend scoring five goals a game for 15 on the weekend. Simon Denis, Erik Bradford and Christian Hilbrich did most of the damage with each scoring twice over the week as the Walleye outscored opponents 15-7. Toledo is currently averaging 3.44 goals per game which is the 8th most in the ECHL.

Powerful play helps: Toledo’s power play finished up the weekend red-hot scoring on four of its last eight chances including a 3-6 night against Atlanta Saturday. The Walleye currently ranks 6th in the ECHL in PP percentage at 19.6%.

Mr. Point per game: Forward Erik Bradford is currently on a four-game point streak in which he has collected three goals and two assists. Only four times in 15 games since joining Toledo has he been held pointless and has five goals with 10 assists in a Walleye uniform. Counting his time with Toledo and Utah last year with a short stint in Norfolk to start this year, Bradford has 84 points (23G, 61A) over his last 84 ECHL contests.

Off to the Zoo: After just finishing up with Kalamazoo yesterday, the Walleye will travel to Kalamazoo for the first time this year for a Friday night tilt. Toledo is 2-0-0 vs. the KWings this season.

Walleye Player of the Week: Charlie O’Connor (0 goals – 5 assists = 5 points, Plus 7)

Walleye Goaltender of the Week: Matej Machovsky (1-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .950 save %)
