Three for three home weekend! Not only did the Walleye post three straight wins over the weekend but they posted three straight sellouts to set a new single season record. Toledo has had six straight standing room only crowds including Sunday’s 7,771 which was the 21st sellout of the year breaking last season’s mark of 20. The Walleye still have nine games remaining on the home schedule.
Nagle ties a record: With three more wins this weekend, goaltender Pat Nagle has equaled the Walleye record for consecutive goaltender victories with his 8th straight. That record was set last year by Cal Heeter (October 15 through December 10, 2016) and then equaled later in the season by Jake Paterson (November 16 through December 23, 2016). The last time Nagle was defeated in regulation was January 20 at Kansas City (3-1). He took a shootout loss on January 24 at Reading. For the season his 26 wins leads the ECHL and he is just eight shy of the Walleye record 34 set last year by Jake Paterson.
Berschbach advancing on records also: On Saturday night, Shane Berschbach passed Evan Rankin for second on the Walleye all-time games played list by appearing in his 239th Walleye game. Already the all-time points (249) and assists (181) leader in Walleye history but he is also tied with Kyle Rogers with 69 goals which is third behind Evan Rankin’s 111 and Kyle Bonis who is at 73 and counting.
Busy four game week: Toledo has a four game week ahead starting Tuesday night at Indy. Toledo is 5-0-0-0 against the Fuel this season with four games left against Indy. Friday and Saturday the Walleye welcome in the South Carolina Stingrays for back to back games. All-time in Toledo ECHL history they are just 4-18-2 against South Carolina. Sunday concludes the weekend with a trip to Brampton where Toledo is 3-1-0-0 this season.
Let's Pink out the Rink! Pink ice returns to the Huntington Center on Friday and Saturday night as the Walleye host a special weekend to raise awareness about breast cancer as well as fundraising activities for Komen of Northwest Ohio.
