Walleye come away with 5-4 overtime victory in Indy to finish season series strong

Fishers, IN – The Toledo Walleye got their revenge against the Indy Fuel with a 5-4 overtime victory at Fishers Event Center tonight. Tanner Dickinson recorded the overtime winner, Dylan Moulton scored in the third period to tie the hockey game, Tanner Kelly had three assists on the night, Reilly Funk had two assists on the night, Mitch Lewandowski had a goal and an assist, and Cam Hausinger and Brendon Michaelian each scored.

How it Happened:

Cam Hausinger got the Walleye on the board first, scoring on his former team to put the Walleye up 1-0 with a backhand shot. Sam Craggs and Garrett Van Wyhe got the assists on Hausinger’s 14th goal of the season at the 10:33 mark of the first period.

Indy got the goal back, as Cody Laskosky scored his 11th goal of the season as the Fuel took the puck away from the Walleye at center ice, tying the game at one goal each at the 13:04 mark of the first.

Mitch Lewandowski was right in front of the net to bury Toledo’s second goal of the night, re-taking the lead for the Walleye at the 4:11 mark of the second period. Tanner Kelly and Reilly Funk had the two assists on Lewandowski’s 10th goal of the season.

Dylan Moulton took the game’s first penalty, a slashing minor, at the 10:33 mark of the second period to put Indy on their first power play of the day. Toledo allowed two goals within 17 seconds, the first on the power-play from Marcus Joughin at the 11:35 mark of the third, and the second even-strength goal from Jordan Martin at the 11:52 mark of the second.

Brendon Michaelian tied the game right back up, scoring his 8th goal of the season and his 5th in his last seven games. Mitch Lewandowski and Tanner Kelly each got assists on the goal, the second points of the night for both, at the 12:45 mark of the second to tie the game at three goals each.

Cody Laskosky got the third period started with a goal that put the Fuel ahead 4-3 over the Walleye, Laskowsky’s second goal of the game at the 2:53 mark of the third. The Walleye went on their second power play of the day as a result of a hooking penalty to Laskosky, giving them an opportunity to tie the game 6:13 into the third period.

Dylan Moulton tied the game about 30 seconds after the power play expired, scoring his fourth goal of the year and his second in as many games. Reilly Funk got the primary assist on the goal, his second of the night, and Nolan Hutcheson recorded his first professional point with an assist on the goal that tied the game at four goals each at the 8:54 mark of the third.

No other scoring would happen in regulation, and the game would go to overtime, as Toledo outshout Indy by double in regulation – 46-23. Tanner Dickinson finished the job in overtime, going end-to-end and scoring his 20th goal of the season 2:04 into overtime. Jacob Truscott and Tanner Kelly got the assists on the goal, the third of the night for Kelly, to secure the win.
