Forward Jason Willms swims back across the Atlantic for his first full ECHL season and second overall in Toledo after agreeing to terms for the 2026-27 ECHL season.
Willms, of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, comes back to the Walleye after spending the 2024-25 season in Europe, and did not play last season. The 27-year-old split his 2024-25 season between two teams, posting four points (1G, 3A), 13 penalty minutes, and a -3 in 16 games with the Vienna Capitals of the ICEHL, and then five points (1G, 4A), ten penalty minutes, and a -4 in 17 games with the Herlev Eagles in Denmark. He made his pro debut with the Walleye back during the 2023-24 season following his collegiate season, tallying posting six points (1G, 5A), two penalty minutes, and a +5 in seven games followed by four points (1G, 3A) and nine penalty minutes in 14 playoff games.
Prior to turning pro, he played in three seasons at the University of New Brunswick, tallying 76 points (35G, 41A), 64 penalty minutes, and a +39 in 84 games, including wearing the “C” as a senior. He also skated in four OHL seasons, collecting 181 points (82G, 99A), 186 penalty minutes, and a -4 in 264 games between Barrie and London. He served as Barrie’s Captain for a season and a half, beginning in 2018-19 and serving through his trade to London the following year.
